{"id":69006,"date":"2026-03-05T11:53:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T11:53:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=69006"},"modified":"2026-03-05T12:08:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T12:08:51","slug":"councillor-calls-stronger-reform-of-our-water-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/councillor-calls-stronger-reform-of-our-water-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Councillor calls for stronger reform of our water system"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Councillor Paul Arnott, Deputy Leader of Devon County Council and Cabinet Member for Local Government Reorganisation and Water Quality, has responded to South West Water&#8217;s guilty plea yesterday to supplying water unfit for human consumption after a parasitic outbreak.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillor Arnott said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe fact that South West Water has pleaded guilty to supplying water unfit for human consumption is extremely serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat failure of responsibility has damaged public trust and shows why stronger reform of our water system is urgently needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSafe, reliable water is a priority for this council. Devon County Council will be unveiling a new pan\u2011Devon water report this year, and we are planning a major water summit in the autumn to bring together all stakeholders and look for innovative solutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to explore bold ideas, such as the potential for a Devon Water Authority that would put the needs of our communities
