{"id":67366,"date":"2025-10-08T11:20:32","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T10:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=67366"},"modified":"2025-10-08T11:20:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T10:20:36","slug":"new-action-plan-to-support-education-employment-and-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/new-action-plan-to-support-education-employment-and-training\/","title":{"rendered":"New action plan to support education, employment and training"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Devon County Council&#8217;s Cabinet today, (Wednesday 8 October) have approved a new Brighter Futures Action Plan, 2025 to 2028, to help young people move confidently into education, employment or training.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan sets out how the council will work together with partners over the next three years to support young people aged 16 to 25, with a particular focus on those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and others who may be struggling to find their way into further learning, training or employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan also focuses on care-experienced young people, and the council\u2019s priority to make Devon the best place to grow up for those in or leaving care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Practically, for all groups, that includes additional mentoring and internship opportunities, more personalised support pathways into learning or employment, and strengthening the one-to-one support to care-experienced young people during transitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new action plan supports the council\u2019s strategic ambition to build a positive future for Devon where everyone thrives, and where young people and adults are supported to access skills, learning and opportunities to progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The key features of the plan include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Personalised mentoring and support<\/strong> for vulnerable young people, helping them build confidence and find the right opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More supported internships<\/strong> and work placements, especially for care leavers and those with additional needs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Better access to transport and digital resources<\/strong>, so rural isolation doesn\u2019t hold anyone back<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A new Job Quality Charter<\/strong>, encouraging local employers to offer meaningful, secure jobs with room to grow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Local Youth Offers<\/strong>, tailored to the needs of each community, so support is available close to home<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan has been shaped by young people, with their experiences and ideas having helped design the strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cllr Julian Brazil, Cabinet Member for Children\u2019s Services, Education, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want every young person in Devon to feel supported, valued and hopeful about their future. This plan is about practical help, and providing real opportunities that make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keri Denton, Director of Performance and Partnerships, added:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBrighter Futures is about working together &#8211; families, schools, employers, and communities &#8211; to give young people the tools they need to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Action Plan will be delivered through existing local and national programmes, with regular updates to ensure progress is being
