Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra\u2019s top ensemble DYJO 1 has been invited to perform at the prestigious Music For Youth Prom at London\u2019s iconic Royal Albert Hall on 11 November marking a major highlight in the ensemble\u2019s 50th anniversary year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Music For Youth Proms celebrates the best of youth music-making across the UK, showcasing a diverse range of ensembles in one of the world\u2019s most renowned concert venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DYJO\u2019s selection reflects their outstanding musical calibre and long-standing contribution to youth jazz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DYJO is one of several county ensembles supported by Devon Music Education Hub, which is led by Devon County Council, offering high-quality opportunities for young musicians across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n

Brian Moore, who alongside DYJO1 director\u00a0Graham Hutton\u00a0has led the orchestra for over 20 years., said: <\/p><\/div>\r\n \t\t

\u201cDYJO is lucky enough to have played in the MFY Schools Proms twice before and for the players it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s so exciting to walk onto such a famous stage, to be treated like professionals with an amazing crew to look after us, to see so many other brilliant young musicians, and hopefully to inspire the next generation of big band jazz musicians. And, of course, it’s wonderful to show the calibre of young musicians throughout Devon.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\n <\/div>\n\n\n

Councillor Julian Brazil, the council’s leader and cabinet member responsible for education services said: <\/p><\/div>\r\n \t\t

\u201cMusic education can enrich young people\u2019s lives, help them connect with the people around them, and start them on the pathway to fruitful and fulfilling careers.\u202f<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very proud of these young people. Their achievement is also a testament to the the brilliant work of dedicated music teachers across the county and to the tireless work of the staff and volunteers who make these opportunities possible.<\/p>\n
