{"id":65084,"date":"2024-12-23T11:41:29","date_gmt":"2024-12-23T11:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=65084"},"modified":"2026-01-26T17:30:03","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T17:30:03","slug":"upgraded-north-devon-link-road-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/upgraded-north-devon-link-road-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Upgraded North Devon Link Road open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>All upgraded sections of the North Devon Link Road are now open.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Improved stretches of the A361 have been opening in stages and final developments between South Molton and Portmore roundabout are now substantially complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent weeks, we have opened the new Landkey roundabout, the improved sections between Portmore roundabout and Landkey roundabout, and between Landkey roundabout and Harford Cross, as well as the area from Harford Cross to Yarnacott, which has been widened to provide new overtaking lanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final few areas which have opened over the past few days include Borners Bridge, Hacche Lane, and the new junction and overbridge at West Buckland, which replaces the old staggered crossroads. The last element to be finished was the section from Landkey viaduct through to Tilery Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"North Devon Link Road improvements\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/TN6qYu3fEJI?feature=oembed&#038;rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Landscaping around the upgraded areas and some minor work will be carried out in the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maintenance work is also being planned on main routes through some of the communities that were on diversion routes during construction of the scheme, including resurfacing in Landkey.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_acf-block-67694c6939d1e\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right dcc grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Councillor Andrea Davis, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said: <\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>\u201cNow that the upgraded sections of road have opened, the A361 will provide greater reliability of journeys and safety will be much improved at junctions and roundabouts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a North Devon resident myself, I share everyone\u2019s frustration in having had to use the Link Road while work has been ongoing since July 2021 and that the scheme has ended up running behind schedule. However, I have to stress that the delays have not been at the cost of the taxpayer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring construction work, traffic has been maintained in both directions along the A361 during the daytime. When the road has been closed overnight, traffic has been diverted through a number of small communities. We\u2019re told that any further overnight work that might be needed on the A361 through this scheme will be carried out under traffic lights to avoid diverting traffic through Swimbridge and Landkey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of Devon County Council, I&#8217;d like to thank all the residents of Swimbridge and Landkey for their patience and tolerance. This has been carried out to improve safety, make journey times more reliable, support economic growth and to help unlock planned development in North Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the main improvements carried out by Griffiths, as part of the wider \u00a367 million link road improvement project which has been backed with \u00a360 million of Department for Transport (DfT) funding, Devon County Council had already upgraded Westleigh Junction in July 2021 and Buckleigh Road junction in January 2022. Improvements to Bishops Tawton roundabout are due to be carried out by the County Council in
