We’ve opened the new (Fortescue) Skinners Farm Bridge in Sidmouth to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the work isnt fully complete and our engineers and contractors will remain onsite to reinstate the surroundings into the New Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will include the removal of the temporary bridges, reinstatement of the paths and the removal of the work compound so that the area can be returned to its original state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We removed the old wooden bridge, which was is an important link between the Fortescue area of Sidmouth and the National Cycle Network Route on The Byes, because it was no longer fit for purpose and was affected by flooding. The new bridge is slightly higher and will help reduce these issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our work to the west side is progressing well with the reinstatement of fences and seeding to be completed soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To east side of the bridge we’re also going to add a farm crossing point.<\/p>\n\n\n

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for Highway Management said: <\/p><\/div>\r\n \t\t

\u201cI want to thank the bridges team and MacPlant Construction, our main contractor, \u00a0who has had to deal with a number of challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bridge is open but there is reinstatement work that needs to be completed. We have opened the new bridge to the public to enable us to close and move the temporary bridges we currently have in place.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce that has been completed, work to reinstate the paths can begin. The compound also has to be removed to enable the reinstatement of the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n
