{"id":57276,"date":"2022-08-09T17:48:42","date_gmt":"2022-08-09T16:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=57276"},"modified":"2022-08-09T17:48:44","modified_gmt":"2022-08-09T16:48:44","slug":"road-at-martinhoe-bridge-re-opened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/road-at-martinhoe-bridge-re-opened\/","title":{"rendered":"Road at Martinhoe Bridge re-opened"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The road at Martinhoe Bridge in North Devon has reopened following the successful installation of a temporary bridge.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 24-metre long temporary steel bridge is now in place spanning over the existing structure which was found to be dangerously weakened during a routine inspection last month. Safety concerns led to its immediate closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devon County Council\u2019s bridges and structures team pulled out all the stops on the scheme over the last few weeks. The installation was completed last night (Monday 8 August) and the road is open with a 15mph speed restriction in place over the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_62f28ca453f9e\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right dcc grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Councillor Stuart Hughes, Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: <\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>\u201cThanks must go to all of those who have made this scheme happen in double-quick time, particularly main contractor MacPlant and their subcontractors for their responsiveness and hard work in getting the temporary bridge installed, and Mitchell Bridges for supplying the temporary bridge at such short notice. designing and building small concrete walls to enable ramps to be built at each end of the bridge, as well as surfacing over the new structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To enable the temporary installation to happen, the adjacent Trentishoe bridge also had to be inspected, surveyed and strengthened to ensure the 90 tonne crane could pass over it without causing
