{"id":57053,"date":"2022-07-19T10:29:21","date_gmt":"2022-07-19T09:29:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=57053"},"modified":"2022-09-21T12:57:53","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T11:57:53","slug":"speed-limit-reduction-given-greenlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/speed-limit-reduction-given-greenlight\/","title":{"rendered":"Speed limit reduction given green light"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>A recommendation to reduce the speed limit on a section of the A3052 near the Cat and Fiddle in East Devon has been approved by our Cabinet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At last Wednesday\u2019s meeting the go ahead was given to lower the speed limit from 50mph to 40mph, subject to funding being available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Cabinet also approved the design and advertisment of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), a necessary legal step in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It follows a site visit attended by some of our highways officers, Councillor Stuart Hughes, our Cabinet Member for Highways Management, and our two local county councillors for Broadclyst Sara Randall-Johnson and Henry Gent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The site visit was prompted by community concerns and any new scheme will also include new 40mph signs or \u2018roundels\u2019 as well as road markings or \u2018gateway treatment\u2019 and a refreshed community nameplate.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_62d66cbc6a27a\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right dcc grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Councillor Stuart Hughes,  Devon County Council&#8217;s Cabinet Member for Highways Management, said: &#8221; <\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>\u201cBy and large drivers do comply with the existing speed limit, so it is also likely drivers would also comply with a new lower 40mph limit.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice have said to ensure the success of any new limit, enforcement has to be supported with a gateway treatment and support from the community is vital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n        <div class=\"councillor-quote-aside medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n\t<figure class=\"councillor-quote-image grid-x\">\r\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"small-6 cell medium-12\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/wp-content\/themes\/dcc-parent-v4\/images\/avatar-placeholder.png\" alt=\"placeholder image\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\r\n        <figcaption class=\"councillor-quote-description small-6 cell medium-12\" >\r\n                        <a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=156\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillor Stuart Hughes, Cabinet Member for Highway Management<\/a><\/figcaption>\r\n            <\/figure>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n    \r\n    <\/div>\n\n<div id=\"block_62d66d2e6a27b\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right dcc grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Councillor Sara Randall-Johnson, the local  county councillor mfor Broadclyst, said:<\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p> \u201cThese proposals are an important safety measure along a stretch of road that has caused concern for some time. The next step will be the design and advertising of the TRO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delivery of the scheme is dependant on funding becoming
