{"id":56355,"date":"2022-05-26T17:12:37","date_gmt":"2022-05-26T16:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=56355"},"modified":"2022-05-26T17:12:43","modified_gmt":"2022-05-26T16:12:43","slug":"a379-at-stoke-fleming-to-remain-closed-for-some-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/a379-at-stoke-fleming-to-remain-closed-for-some-time\/","title":{"rendered":"A379 at Stoke Fleming to remain closed &#8220;for some time&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The A379 at Stoke Fleming is expected to remain closed for some time and our highways teams have confirmed it\u2019s too soon to say when it will re-open.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An emergency closure was introduced on a narrow section of the road on Tuesday (24 May) night after safety concerns were raised over a privately owned boundary wall alongside the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A crack in the 5-metre (16ft) high masonry wall was deemed to be a risk to road users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The owners of the wall have responded swiftly and scaffolding has been erected ahead of the wall being taken down. The majority of this work will have to be carried out by hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the structure has been removed, scheme designs will need to be prepared and technical approvals agreed before it\u2019s rebuilt.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_628f95866a74e\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right dcc grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Councillor Stuart Hughes, Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said:<\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>\u201cPublic safety is paramount and this stretch of the A379 had to be closed due to the risk presented by the crack in this high wall.
