We want to know what Exeter residents think about our plans for a new cycle route along Rifford Road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposals are for a 700m long, two-way traffic-free route along the east of Rifford Road, between the junctions with Ludwell Lane and Honiton Road where pedestrians and cyclists each will have their own space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An o<\/a>nline consultation<\/a> starts on Monday March 21 and closes on Friday April 22. This scheme represents \u2018missing link\u2019 in the north-south cycle route, also known as E12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once completed, there would be a continuous route running from Polsloe Bridge station in the north of the City to Marsh Barton station in the south. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The E12 route connects residents of Whipton, Heavitree and Wonford to schools, workplaces, parks, shops and leisure centres as well as the River Exe and the Exe Estuary Trail. <\/p>\n\n\n

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for Highways Management, with responsibility for cycling, said:<\/p><\/div>\r\n \t\t

\u201cThis scheme will link up the route and once complete there will be a safe, continuous five kilometre route linking the north and south of Exeter. \u201cThese proposals once again demonstrate our commitment to promoting active travel and developing a network of traffic-free, multi-use trails across Devon. It will help reduce people\u2019s reliance on their car over shorter distances, reduce carbon emissions which in turn helps us to achieve our net-zero goals.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n

Local County Councillor for Wonford & St Loyes, Councillor Marina Asvachin, said:<\/p><\/div>\r\n \t\t

\u201cThis consultation is an opportunity for people to find out more about the proposals to and have their views listened to. There are many people who wish to cycle for leisure purposes or to and from work or school but are concerned about safety. This scheme would complete a route giving cyclists an uninterrupted safe route, separated from traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n

A consultation webinar on Microsoft Teams, explaining the proposals and enabling members of the public to ask questions will be held on Wednesday March 30 at 5.30pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To register for the webinar, please email transportplanning@devon.gov.uk<\/a>; we will send out joining instructions shortly before the event. Residents will be able to meet transport planning officers and ask questions at the Wonford Community Centre on Thursday March 31 and Thursday April 7 between 10 and 12
