We need to shift our sources of energy from fossil fuels to renewable alternatives. We will need to consume double the amount of electricity we do now to achieve net-zero. And as all of this new supply needs to be from renewable sources, that means we need eight times more renewable electricity generation than we do now. This new supply could be generated outside of Devon in other counties, abroad, or offshore. But these options do not provide the jobs and investment opportunities and resilience benefits of locally-generated power to Devon. Community ownership, favoured by the Assembly, makes sure the benefits are truly local.
