{"id":55225,"date":"2022-02-21T17:05:16","date_gmt":"2022-02-21T17:05:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=55225"},"modified":"2022-02-22T15:27:56","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T15:27:56","slug":"look-out-for-each-other-urges-devons-director-of-public-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/look-out-for-each-other-urges-devons-director-of-public-health\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Look out for each other,&#8217; urges Devon&#8217;s Director of Public Health"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Devon\u2019s Director of Public Health, Steve Brown, is urging the public to \u2018continue to look out for each other\u2019 by being cautious and following the guidance over the next few months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His comments come after groups that represent vulnerable people most at risk from coronavirus raised concerns about the removal of the legal requirement for people with the virus to self-isolate, announced by the Prime Minister today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Brown says he\u2019s heard from groups that represent vulnerable people and that many are concerned that removing legislation will put them personally at greater risk.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_6213b35a5a5e9\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Diana Crump, CEO of Living Options Devon, a local charity that champions and supports the needs of disabled people and British Sign Language users, said:<\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>\u201cWe are hearing from people who we support that they\u2019re worried what the removal of the self-isolating legislation will mean for them.\u00a0 There are many people in Devon who are especially vulnerable, and should they catch coronavirus, the effect it could have on their health could be very serious.\u00a0 The concern is that without the legal requirement, many people who have the coronavirus, knowingly or not, will be out and about, and the airborne nature of the virus means infection and spread is very likely.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n    \r\n    <\/div>\n\n<div id=\"block_621500addb2bf\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right other has-white-color has-black-background-color grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Steve Brown, Director of Public Health Devon, said:<\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>\u201cWhat is clear is that it is vital that people continue to look out for each other, and do all they can to reduce risk, especially to those who are more vulnerable. \u201cThat means being respectful of other people\u2019s concerns and personal situations. The public health advice is that anyone who tests positive for coronavirus, or who shows symptoms of having it, including a high temperature or cough, should stay at home and avoid contact with others. The same can be said for any other infectious illness, such a flu, or vomiting and diarrhoea. We need to get to a place whereby it\u2019s commonly accepted that when someone\u2019s not well and there\u2019s risk of spreading that virus, that they stay home to reduce the risk of transmission to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n        <div class=\"councillor-quote-aside medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n\t<figure class=\"councillor-quote-image grid-x\">\r\n\t\t<img
