A pilot project has been launched to help support the growth of Devon\u2019s agricultural industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u00a3500,000 Devon County Council scheme is being supported through the UK Community Renewal Fund<\/a> which was recently secured by Team Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DATA (Devon Agri-Tech Accelerator) project is aiming to provide support and research for farmers, growers, landowners, and other agricultural and Agri-Tech businesses to develop innovations which can help build a sustainable farming community within Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will also look to reduce Devon\u2019s carbon footprint, enhance farm productivity, support the local economy and grow the agriculture and Agri-Tech business sector in Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Devon County Council will be working with Business Information Point, Duchy College Rural Business School, and the University of Plymouth on the project which will cover four key areas of work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research & Mapping \u2013 <\/strong>To understand how many farms currently use technology, what opportunities may be around the corner and what Agri-Tech developers we have within Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building an Agri-Tech Alliance \u2013<\/strong> Create a group where farmers, horticultural, aquacultural and forestry businesses can connect with Agri-Tech developers and stakeholders, such as academic institutions, who are undertaking research. This will use the research and mapping to plan how to grow and support the sector in the future, connecting all areas of the agricultural sector with new and innovative opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farm Innovation Pilot –<\/strong> Develop a \u2018Farm Innovation Plan\u2019 and test with farm businesses in West Devon and Torridge, which are the Community Renewal Fund priority areas in Devon. Two events, the first being held on Monday 28 February, between 12pm and 7pm at Roadford Lake<\/a>. Agri-Tech businesses will showcase their innovations to farmers across Devon, where they will be able to explore the technology, try it out and understand what it could offer their farm business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowledge Exchange and Voucher Scheme pilot \u2013<\/strong> A \u201cKnowledge Exchange Manager\u201d will work with 14 Agri-Tech businesses across Devon to identify bespoke support, advice or services needed to develop Agricultural technology and innovation or grow your business. Vouchers of up to \u00a315,000 will be available to pay for the support identified.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cA flourishing farming industry is vital for our rural communities, and it underpins the region\u2019s food and drink sector which is so important for our local economy. Through research and support, this project is aiming to ensure that agriculture in Devon can benefit from the use of technology, with farming and Agri-Tech communities working closely together.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking for farm businesses, specifically in West Devon and Torridge, to take part in the farm innovation pilot of the project to help gain an insight into enhancing productivity and overall sustainability in those areas. And if you are an Agri-Tech business who would like to gain financial support to further develop your innovation, please get in touch.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n
