{"id":54823,"date":"2022-01-27T18:00:42","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T18:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=54823"},"modified":"2022-01-28T10:15:42","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T10:15:42","slug":"landslip-closes-road-at-torrington","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/landslip-closes-road-at-torrington\/","title":{"rendered":"Landslip closes road at Torrington"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The A386 at Torrington is closed in both directions following a landslip, which has brought down rocks and debris onto the road.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Geotechnical experts have visited the site and are concerned about the amount of rock still on the high bank, but which has become unstable and may yet continue to fall onto the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The A386 is closed at Orford Mill, while highways and geotechnical engineers assess and make safe the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diversions are in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>A spokesman for Devon County Council said:\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s too soon to say how long the road will remain closed, but clearly while there\u2019s potential risk of further landslips onto the road, it would be unsafe for the road to be open. We\u2019ll continue to assess and address the safety issues, and we\u2019ll report progress as soon as we know more.<\/p><p>\u201cThe next step will be to undertake a close inspection of the upper part of the unstable rock face. This will require vegetation clearance and specialist roped access work, which were organising as soon as possible. Once this inspection is complete, we\u2019ll have a better understanding of the risk of further landslips, and can begin to develop plans to stabilise the rockface.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p
