We’re asking residents to give their views on two plans that set out our ambitions to improve walking and cycling facilities in the Clyst Valley and parts of Mid Devon.
The two Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) set out our aspirations over the next 10-20 years.
LCWIPs show which routes should be prioritised when funding becomes available, for instance from government or from housing developers.
And the types of improvements included in an LCWIP could include new crossings, cycle routes that are physically separated from motorists and pedestrians, public realm improvements, and traffic calming measures.
One plan focuses on Cullompton and Tiverton and has been developed in partnership with Mid Devon District Council.
It includes routes within the two towns as well as links to Willand, Tiverton Parkway, Uffculme and Killerton. Together these would provide 35km of additional traffic free and low-traffic cycle routes, suitable for all ages and abilities.
The second plan is the Clyst Valley & New Communities LCWIP and has been developed in partnership with East Devon District Council.
It includes 50 km of additional traffic free and low-traffic cycle routes, suitable for all ages and abilities, covering an area stretching from Killerton in the north to Topsham in the south, and from the Exeter boundary in the west to Whimple in the east:

“This is a good opportunity for local people to have an influence over these plans that set out our ambitions to deliver improved active travel facilities, providing more direct, convenient, safe and attractive options for local journeys over the next 10 to 20 years or so.
“We believe that improved walking and cycling infrastructure would help ease congestion, reduce emissions and improve people’s health.”
