As part of our ongoing commitment to improving transition experiences for pupils with Special Educational Needs, Special Partnership Trust has been working in partnership with Devon County Council on a comprehensive Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Project.
During the summer term, we engaged in a wide range of shared activities designed to build strong, supportive pathways for pupils moving into secondary settings. These include:
- Joint planning sessions across schools
- Shared learning walks to observe and reflect on inclusive practice
- School tours and transition visits tailored for pupils with SEND
- Open events to share good practice and strengthen professional networks
These activities laid a strong foundation for the next phase of the project, and we are pleased to confirm that several support sessions are now booked for the autumn term. These will continue to focus on ensuring that Year 7 pupils with SEND are well supported as they settle into their new environments.
Planned support for the autumn term includes:
- Sharing and reviewing transition processes
- Effectiveness and Consistency of Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision
- Targeted transition activities and in-school support for pupils
- Staff CPD sessions to enhance SEND provision and confidence
- Deployment of staff and strategic planning
- Planning Parent workshops to ensure families feel informed and supported
- Curriculum planning and bridging work for continuity of learning
- Ongoing collaboration with feeder primary schools to ensure consistency and strong information sharing
- Creating sensory friendly environments
