This September explore The Great Outdoors!

This September we are all being asked to embrace the great outdoors and consider ditching the car and, where possible, use an alternative form of transport.

It’s all part of Outdoor September, a Devon-wide month-long campaign being promoted by Active Devon.

Being active, particularly outdoors, benefits your health and wellbeing and during the course of the month Active Devon and their partners from the Devon Local Nature Partnership, Devon Climate Emergency, Devon County Council’s Public Health team and Travel Devon, will be sharing details of events, ideas and tips to help us all make the most of our environment.

The campaign aims to support those looking to change their behaviour and become more active.

Here are some fantastic ways to enjoy Devon during #OutdoorSeptember:

Councillor Andrea Davis, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said:

“Why not take Outdoor September as the opportunity to immerse yourself in Devon’s breathtaking scenery, embrace a healthier lifestyle, and add a little bit of nature into a daily routine. Outdoor September is your ticket to enjoy nature, champion sustainability and dive into exciting new ways to connect and enjoy our stunning county. Whether you’re into hiking, biking, yoga, running, team sports, traveling actively or just a casual wheel or stroll, join your family or friends and be outdoors this September. Leaving the car at home when you can, can have amazing benefits, not only financially but on your mental and physical health too.”

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management said:

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management said: “We are encouraging Devon residents to get out there and enjoy Devon’s beautiful countryside this September.
“One of the best ways you can do this is to get on your bike; Devon has miles of cycle routes from the Exe Estuary Trail to the Tarka Trail for all kinds of cycling. Whether you’re looking for a quiet journey to work, a traffic-free trail perfect for all the family or something more challenging; there will be one for you.
“We continue to look for opportunities to improve older routes and build new ones so why don’t you visit the interactive interactive cycle map on the Travel Devon website and take a look at what’s on offer. You’ll feel happier and healthier and have fun too!”

So, why not take this opportunity to slow down and immerse yourself in Devon’s diverse environment. Whether it’s a coastal hike, a stroll through ancient woodlands, or a peaceful day relaxing by the riverside, nature is just one step away.
