Specialist surveys will be carried out on the A377 between Crediton and Newton St Cyres in September to help develop more detailed plans for the proposed Boniface Trail.
The trail, which was endorsed by our Cabinet in January, proposes a 12km walking and cycling route that would link Crediton Railway Station with Exeter St David’s, serving the communities of Smallbrook, Newton St Cyres and Cowley.
The topographical surveys, which will provide detailed information about the highway and surrounding land, are scheduled to take place from Monday 7 September to Wednesday 23 September.
During this period, temporary traffic signals will be in use between the Tesco Superstore roundabout in Crediton and Newton St Cyres. The road will remain open throughout, although drivers are advised to allow extra time or use an alternative route where appropriate, as delays are likely.
Councillor Jacqi Hodgson, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said:
“The Boniface Trail has the potential to provide a safer and more direct walking and cycling connection between Crediton and Exeter, so we are pleased that plans are moving into their next stage. We have worked closely with local communities as the preferred route has been developed. These surveys will allow us to develop the design and understand how the trail could be delivered safely.”
