Keep your family safe on Devon’s farms this spring

Animal montage

Spring is the perfect time to enjoy Devon’s many family friendly farms. While they’re great fun, animals can sometimes carry germs that can make people ill — especially young children and pregnant women.

To keep your visit safe, remember to wash hands with soap and water after touching animals, supervise children closely, and eat only in designated areas. Avoid touching your face around animals, and don’t rely on hand gels — they don’t remove dirt or germs.

Get farm-ready: Watch our video for an important safety message from Councillor Cheryl Cottle Hunkin, our cabinet member for rural affairs.

If you or your child becomes unwell with sickness or diarrhoea within two weeks of a farm visit, contact your GP or call NHS 111.
