What is Y-SMART?
Y-SMART is part of our Early Help and Partnerships service. It’s a service that all young people, aged up to 18 years old, can access for free. You can find the referral form on our website, or call us to speak to a duty practitioner. Young people and families can make referrals or ask other professionals to support them with this.
What does it offer?
Y-SMART provides advice and intervention to children and young people who are affected by substance misuse, whether that’s their own misuse, or there is substance misuse in their family. The service has trained and experienced professionals who work with young people, their parents, schools, and in communities.
How does it support people?
Y-SMART provides a range of support. It provides direct support and treatment for young people. That includes the ‘Y Project’, that supports children of adults who use substances. It also provides training for professionals, and it works closely with schools to help educate young people to the dangers of substance abuse and how to seek help.
Who do Y-SMART work with?
The service is open to all children and young people. They can self-refer, but professionals can also refer young people to the service. Y-SMART works closely with colleagues in childrens services, education, health and youth community services.
What does Y-SMART aim to achieve?
Y-SMART is a professional service that provides direct intervention and support for children and young people’s emotional wellbeing, helping them to have a wider understanding of the motivations and impact of substance misuse, and how to minimise harm to themselves and others.
