Partners from North Devon and Torridge recently met to talk about how the Active Champs movement can help build on existing strengths and create even more welcoming ways for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to be active and engaged.
Tarka Leisure and Active Torridge hosted the day and a team from Active Devon visited different leisure locations across the area. Everyone looked at what is already working well and how we could work together better to add value. Our discussions focused on where we could strengthen partnerships to ensure physical activity and movement opportunities are accessible to all young people.
It was a great day and some new ideas are already being planned. These include providing more training opportunities, sensory environment assessments to improve accessibility, and stronger youth voice initiatives to enable young people help shape the activities and spaces designed for them.
The visit was a great success and highlighted a shared commitment towards working together, helping to make movement and physical activity even more inclusive, enjoyable and impactful for young people across North Devon and Torridge.
A huge thank you to Lily and Hannah from Active Torridge and Niamh from Tarka Leisure Centre for spending time with us!
