It\u2019s Black History Month<\/a> and this year\u2019s theme is Saluting Our Sisters; recognising the inspirational Black women who have shaped history and made incredible contributions to all areas of life including the arts, industry, government, sport, and science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are adding our voice in celebration of the achievements of Black women and their diverse and profound impact on society by sharing stories from inspirational colleagues and influential Black women in Devon who contribute so much towards supporting our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexis Wright works closely with Devon County Council and has been a key part of several important programs to advance Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Her contribution to Devon has been transformative and robust, especially in advancing intersectional feminism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faye Doris<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Faye Doris has contributed to the South West Community for over 50 years, as a nurse, a midwife, an associate professor, a public governor of a hospital, and many other roles besides. She remains actively involved in several projects promoting health, racial equity, and inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vivian Obibuaku<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Drawing upon her extensive expertise as a teacher (primary and secondary schools), and as a mental health worker, Vivian Obibuaku currently works as a contact supervisor with the Family Service Centre in Devon County Council, helping to keep children safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chim Nkhoma<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chim is a dedicated social worker based in Seaton, Axminster, and Sidmouth Health and Social Care Team. She is also very involved in her local community church, and is the leader of the workship team. On the basis of her very meaningful contributions to the community, she has been encouraged to become a local councillor – whilst she has welcomed this opportunity, she does not currently have the time to embark on this journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abigail Muzvimwe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Abigail is a procurement manager for Devon County Council. She is responsible for ensuring that the complex process of procuring adult social care and public health contracts is managed in in a fair, transparent, and equitable way. She manages a team of procurement officers and has an MBA in Senior Leadership from the University of Exeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
