The Cabinet of Devon County Council has approved the proposal to lower the age range at Ashwater Primary School from 4-11 to 2-11 years of age from January 2023.<\/p>\n

Evidence of demand<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ashwater Primary School is a Community School maintained by Devon County Council for ages 4-11.<\/p>\n

Ashwater Pre-School is a Governor run Pre-School, situated on the grounds of Ashwater Primary School and currently offers places to 2, 3 and 4 years olds.<\/p>\n

This proposal is concerned with the pre-school becoming part of the school rather than operating as an extended service. There will be no change in relation to the number of early years places currently offered and no change to the school\u2019s published admission number. If the proposal is approved, the main difference is that the pre-school will become a maintained Nursery Class, organised as a Foundation Stage Unit (Nursery and Reception class). Early Years staff will be employed directly by the school and children currently in the pre-school will be registered on the school roll, if the proposal is approved.<\/p>\n

Parents will still need to make a separate application to Devon County Council for a place in the Reception class.<\/p>\n

Devon\u2019s Early Years and Childcare Service is supportive of this proposal.<\/p>\n

Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n

Extending the age range of the School will allow children to attend their local early years provision.<\/p>\n

Education standards<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ashwater Primary School is a Good school. Inspection reports are available via: www.ofsted.gov.uk<\/p>\n

The effect on other Schools, Academies and educational institutions in the area<\/strong><\/p>\n

A pre-school already exists on this site and converting to a nursery is unlikely to have a negative effect on other providers in the area.<\/p>\n

Project Costs<\/strong><\/p>\n

The school has confirmed that no capital will be required. Planning consent is not required.<\/p>\n

Implementation and any proposed stages for implementation<\/strong><\/p>\n

The proposal, if approved, will be implemented with effect from January 2023.<\/p>\n

Effect on existing pupils<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is already provision for a pre-school on site and converting the provision to a Nursery will not affect existing pupils. The proposal will not affect the capacity of the school, nor the Published Admission Number and will not put pressure on existing classroom space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
