Background<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of work to refresh their Neighbourhood Development Plan, Exminster Parish Council (EPC) have identified a community desire for traffic calming and improved pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities in Exminster village. The Parish Council approached Devon County Council (DCC) as the highway authority to investigate potential infrastructure and policy interventions and undertake a feasibility study of sites across the village.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A series of traffic speed surveys and site visits were conducted by DCC engineers to ascertain the current situation and inform high level design of a number of infrastructure and policy interventions.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If approved at the Teignbridge Highways and Traffic Orders Committee, the detailed design and subsequent construction of the Exminster Traffic Management Scheme will be funded by Exminster Parish Council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 <\/td>Junction of Sannerville Way with Main Road and junction of Lower Duck Street with Sannerville Way.  <\/td>Upgraded 30mph terminal signs. <\/td>To increase driver awareness of the 30mph speed limit on entry to the village following the 40mph speed limit to the north and the national speed limit to the south. <\/td><\/tr>
2 <\/td>Junction of Reddaway Drive with Main Road near M5 flyover. <\/td>Parallel crossing with associated lighting, signing and lining.  <\/td>To provide a controlled crossing point across Main Road for those walking, wheeling and cycling, improving access to the existing shared use path on the east side of Main Road and onwards to the Exe Estuary Trail. The crossing will also calm traffic and reduce mean speeds by interrupting traffic flow.  <\/td><\/tr>
3 <\/td>Main Road north of Milbury Farm Meadow. <\/td>2 moveable Vehicle Activated Signs  <\/td>To reduce vehicle speeds by alerting drivers when they are exceeding the 30mph speed limit.  <\/td><\/tr>
4 <\/td>Bus stop on Main Road south of Milbury Farm Meadow. <\/td>Build out of footway at bus stops and improvement of formal crossing.  <\/td>To reduce the pedestrian crossing distance and duration between the eastern and western bus stops by narrowing the carriageway. The narrower carriageway will also cause a reduction in mean vehicle speeds by prompting drivers to drive more cautiously.  <\/td><\/tr>
5 <\/td>Junction of Reddaway Drive with Main Road near Exminster Garage. <\/td>Zebra crossing with associated junction amendment, lighting, signing and lining.  <\/td>To provide a controlled crossing point across Main Road for pedestrians accessing the footway on the eastern side of Main Road. This is particularly pertinent for those accessing Exminster Community Primary School to the south. This crossing point will also cause a reduction in mean vehicle speeds by interrupting traffic flow.   <\/td><\/tr>
6 <\/td>Days Pottles Lane  <\/td>Extension of 20mph limit from junction with Main Road to existing 30mph signs. <\/td>To reduce vehicle speeds through narrow lane and create a safer environment for those walking, wheeling and cycling.  <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
