Union Road Parking Data – June 2021
In the last couple of years, as part of the next stage of the E4 strategic cycle route, Devon County Council have carried out a number of parking surveys along Union Road to identify how the 90 current available spaces are utilised during different times of the day and year.
Surveys were done either side of national lockdowns and also during and outside University term time. The surveys were undertaken at differing times of the day (AM = 7:30-9am, Inter Peak = 12-2pm, PM = after 6pm) to ensure parking in the area was best understood.
Some surveys were more detailed than others, looking at permits and the number plates of vehicles parked on Union Road, helping to identify their registered origin which provides a better understanding of the potential effects of removal of parking space along Union Road as part of the next phase of the E4 cycle route.
In the table below are the results of the 11 surveys with the rows highlighted in grey showing the surveys undertaken outside University term time.

At present Union Road allows parking to permit holders from either Zone S4 or G. Devon County Council further investigated which zones vehicles parking on Union Road belonged to. The table below summarises this data, with the rows highlighted in grey signalling when a survey was undertaken outside of university term time.
