Summary of meeting

The LDPB discussions included:

General Update

Helen Toker-Lester updated the board on the local elections that had taken place and the up and coming General Election June 2017. Mencap are trying to get the main political parties to have easy read manifestos.

New Plans

  • All the work we did at the AGM is included
  • There is also a workforce plan to support staff and work with providers is planned too.
  • Having better information is a big part of the plan

Accessible Website

  • We are developing a new Website
  • It will be based on the Citizenship model
  • All the information available will be accessible.

Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP)

All areas will have a Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP).

Transforming care, promoting independence and addressing health inequalities are all included in our STP plan.

Don’t Miss Out Getting Better Healthcare

Helen Token-Lester talked about Mencap’s Campaign – Don’t miss out – Getting Better Health Care

The Campaign is about making sure that People with learning disabilities are on the Learning Disability Register.

Telling your doctor that you have a learning disability means you will receive care that meets your individual needs, including;

  • extra time and support during your appointment
  • easy read/accessible information
  • appointments that suit you

Leaflets and information about how to join the learning disability register were available for people to take away.

The group also watched a video explaining the 111 service.

People’s views and experiences of using Primary Care Services.

The group provided their feedback on their experiences with Primary Care for:

GP’s

Emergency Help

Health Records

Annual Health Checks

Dentists

Hearing

Mental Health

Podiatry

Liaison Nurses

Feedback would also be shared with Devon Partnership Trust.

Leadership Group Action Plan

Helen Toker-Lester took the board through the action plan to make sure in was an accurate representation of the actions.

Names for the Accessible Website and Friendship Groups

Members for their ideas for the names of the website and friendship group, who compiled a list of ideas.

Priorities, action plan and meetings for this year

Helen Toker-Lester talked through the easy read action plan.  The Action Plan included the actions that were agreed with the Leadership Group at our A.G.M.
