Helen Toker-Lester explained that having spoken to parents about the Transforming Care Plan they found that parents of someone with a Learning Disability or Autism can get a tough time out in the community. The group shared their own personal experiences, and agreed that unfortunate instances were reducing but the culture needed to change, and decided a campaign was needed to help this happen.

Devon’s Strategy for Children and Young People with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) 2017 – 2020

As part of our improvement work a draft SEND Strategy has been developed which aims to set out

  • Devon’s vision
  • Six strategic priorities
  • Our commitment to joint working across all partners, including Education, Health and Social Care.

The Strategy focuses on 6 key priorities:

  • Working Together
  • Inclusive Education
  • Preparation for Adulthood
  • Choice and Control
  • Engagement
  • Health

The comments of the group were collected and added into a response to the strategy from the Partnership Board.
