The Country Park provides a variety of educational opportunities for groups of all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Activities for primary schools<\/h3>\n<h4>Pond dipping<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2975 size-gallery-widget\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Aim: Use nets to collect a range of freshwater species, use keys to identify them and learn about their lifecycles, adaptations and feeding relationships.<\/p>\n<p>This can include (some\/all of):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>identification of creatures using keys<\/li>\n<li>counting and tallying numbers of each species<\/li>\n<li>food chains and webs<\/li>\n<li>lifecycles of different species<\/li>\n<li>effects of pollution on pond life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Minibeast hunting<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2977 size-gallery-widget\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Aim: Use different methods to collect and identify a range of invertebrates and learn about their lifecycles and feeding relationships<\/p>\n<p>This can include (some\/all of):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>identification of minibeasts using keys<\/li>\n<li>classification of minibeasts into different groups<\/li>\n<li>body parts and functions<\/li>\n<li>comparing minibeasts along hedgerow and grasslands using different sampling methods<\/li>\n<li>camouflage games<\/li>\n<li>food chains and webs<\/li>\n<li>lifecycles of different species<\/li>\n<li>natural towpath<\/li>\n<li>identification of plants and animals<\/li>\n<li>sensory games and activities<\/li>\n<li>food chains and webs<\/li>\n<li>history of the park<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Activities for secondary schools<\/h3>\n<p>All topics mentioned above can be adapted to suit a secondary school visit.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>What is the cost?<\/h3>\n<p>For ranger-led school visits:<\/p>\n<div book?<\/h3>\n<p>Please call the Rangers Service on 01884 254072 or email <a href=\"mailto:gwcanal@devon.gov.uk\">gwcanal@devon.gov.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Extra information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Ideal group size is between 15 \u2013 35 children<\/li>\n<li>Schools are responsible for the supervision and discipline of the children at all times<\/li>\n<li>Ratio of adults to children should be 1:8, and therefore it would be helpful if extra staff or parents could join the group<\/li>\n<li>A risk assessment is available for teachers and parents to read and, each activity will start with a brief talk about health and safety<\/li>\n<li>The Ranger leading the activities is a qualified first aider and will also be carrying a first aid kit, safety throw line and a mobile phone.<\/li>\n<li>We will provide all the necessary equipment including clipboards and worksheets.
