How to find us…

  • For access to the Canal Basin and southern end of the Canal

    The main entrance to the Country Park is the Canal Basin in Tiverton. Brown tourist signs with a barge logo, lead from the surrounding road network to the Canal Basin car park on Canal Hill.

    For access to the central section of the Canal

    The surrounding road network makes it possible to access the canal at regular intervals along its length

    From Tiverton – take the road towards Halberton, passing Blundells School;

    From the M5 –  Turn off the M5 at Junction 27 and follow the A361 North Devon Link Road, taking the first exit to Sampford Peverell.

    To access the northern end of the Canal

    From the M5 – Turn off the M5 at Junction 27 and follow the A38 to Wellington and follow signs to Burlescombe.

  • Cycling is a popular way for families and individuals to access and explore the Country Park. National Cycle Network Route 3 follows much of the Canal. The towpath is generally flat and smooth, but cyclists must dismount and walk under bridges and give way to pedestrians and the horses drawing the passenger barge at all times.

  • There are regular bus services to Tiverton from Exeter, Barnstaple, Crediton and Taunton.

    Once at Tiverton Bus Station, the Canal Basin is a half mile walk up Canal Hill (the Tourist Information Centre, in the Museum can give directions, if necessary).

    Alternatively you can catch the Tidcombe Circular bus service which stops just past the Canal Basin, at the top of Withy Close/Spurway Road, and at another access point near Tidcombe Bridge.

    There are also regular bus services between Tiverton and Exeter, and Tiverton and Taunton, that stop at some of the villages along the length of the Canal, including Halberton, Sampford Peverell and at Tiverton Parkway Train Station.
