The programme is part of Defra\u2019s commitment to improve access to nature, particularly by reducing barriers to accessing green spaces for people in areas of higher deprivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One river walk has already been delivered in the North West region and so applications are now invited from the remaining 8 regions of England to deliver the next river walks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Successful projects will be awarded up to \u00a3100,000 resource funding and up to \u00a31,250,000 capital funding to deliver a new or upgraded route alongside a river. The route should be&nbsp;multi-user&nbsp;(accommodating walking, wheeling, cycling and\/or horse riding)&nbsp;where possible and should run through or close to disadvantaged areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications can be made by formally-constituted organisations including local and combined authorities, highways authorities, registered charities, CIOs, CICs, companies limited by guarantee, private-sector organisations and public-sector bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim is to select 4 river walks to be delivered by 31st March 2028.
