Fund description:

The Seafood Innovation Fund (SIF) is a three-year, £10 million research and development (R&D) fund, designed to boost innovation in the UK fishing and seafood industries.

The programme focuses on delivering longer term, cutting-edge innovation across the seafood sector, helping to take innovative ideas from early-stage research to commercial viability.

Applications can now be made for funding for feasibility studies that can test new ideas or approaches to benefit the UK seafood sector. These are projects funded for up to five months, to develop an idea for a new technology or process, and to undertake the initial testing to assess whether progressing further is beneficial. You can apply for up to £50,000.

Projects relating to the following topics are eligible:

  • Primary producers
  • Onshore supply chains
  • Marine fisheries, including for species that move between freshwater and marine environments
  • Marine and land-based aquaculture

The fund is open to all organisations who have an innovative idea meeting the objectives of the fund. The idea must benefit the sustainability and productivity of the seafood industry in the UK.
