Fund title: Local Full Fibre Networks (LFFN) Challenge Fund
Focus of fund/fund aims:
To stimulate more commercial investment in broadband and provide more gigabit-capable connectivity
EoIs relating to rapid mobilisation should be submitted by 30 September 2018. Informal EoIs relating to other themes can be submitted at any time.
The LFFN Challenge Fund is a £200m government capital grant programme available to public-sector organisations to help deliver a fast, reliable digital communications network. Funding is being released in ‘Waves’: the current call for applications is Wave 3.
Projects should enable gigabit-capable connections to key public buildings and/or businesses and improve viability for commercial investment.
Applications may come from any public sector body, or group of public bodies in the UK. This includes all tiers of local government and other public sector bodies, such as health, education or transport bodies. Collaborative proposals are welcomed which cover wide geographical areas that cut across local authority boundaries, for example LEP or Combined Authority areas.
It is anticipated that up to 20 Wave 3 applications will be funded with a combined value of up to £95m.
Projects will be considered under eight themes:
- rapid mobilisation (EoIs to be submitted by 30 September 2018)
- multi-authority/public body
- rural focus
- devolved/regional corridor/growth hub
- 5G or barrier busting
- public sector productivity
- market development
- innovation and learning
