Fund description:

The Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) is an annual bidding round for eligible academies, sixth-form colleges and voluntary-aided schools to apply for funding to improve school buildings.

The CIF can be used by academies and sixth-form colleges to expand classrooms, upgrade facilities such as sports halls or science labs, and address issues with the general wear and tear of school buildings. Priority is given to projects that address compliance and health and safety issues. This includes fire protection systems, gas safety, electrical safety or emergency asbestos removal.

Single academy trusts, small multi-academy trusts (MATs), sixth-form colleges, non-diocesan voluntary-aided schools and schools with signed academy orders are eligible to apply.

Grants are for capital works only.

Total project costs should be between £20,000 and £4m for primary and special schools; £50,000 and £4m for secondary schools, all-through schools and sixth-form colleges.
