Devon County Council is the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) as defined by the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. This legislation was designed to improve the way we tackle the risk of flooding across England and Wales following the large summer floods of 2007.<\/p>\n

The Flood and Coastal Risk Management Team take a hybrid approach to working, with team members splitting their time between County Hall and working from home. Team members can undertake site visits, as well as conducting meetings via video conferencing.<\/p>\n

We have produced an advice leaflet summarising rights and responsibilities when it comes to rivers, streams, ditches and surface water on your land \u2013 Living with Water<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Managing Land to Reduce Flood Risk<\/h2>\n

This guidance document focuses on the effect on flood risk from the management of soils, planting of woodlands and managing surface water runoff in upland areas, highlighting methods that can be used to reduce flood risk through good land management. These methods range from being localised in farmland areas to larger catchment area projects – Managing Land to Reduce Flood Risk.<\/a><\/p>\n
