{"id":20206,"date":"2026-07-16T11:16:05","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T10:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/eycs\/?p=20206"},"modified":"2026-07-16T11:16:05","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T10:16:05","slug":"updated-eyfs-frameworks-come-into-force-1-september-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/eycs\/updated-eyfs-frameworks-come-into-force-1-september-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Updated EYFS frameworks come into force 1 September 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 13 July 2026 the Department for Education (DfE) published updated<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/early-years-foundation-stage-framework--2\" rel=\"noopener\"> EYFS frameworks<\/a> for childminders\u202fand group and school-based providers, which apply from 1 September 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The main changes from that date are outlined below and represent strengthened safeguarding requirements. The safety of our youngest children is our utmost priority, and we continually monitor and review safeguarding requirements to make sure children are kept as safe as possible.<\/p>\n<h2>Both EYFS frameworks include updates which:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Bring explicit wording on the safer sleep requirements into the main body of the EYFS, so that providers do not need to refer out to separate guidance.<\/li>\n<li>Prohibit the provision of registered childcare from any premises where a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/control-dog-public\/banned-dogs\" rel=\"noopener\">banned dog breed<\/a> is kept or is otherwise present.<\/li>\n<li>Require providers to inform Ofsted or their childminder agency (CMA) of allegations of \u2018harm\u2019 (instead of \u2018serious harm\u2019) by anyone living, working, or looking after children at the premises.<\/li>\n<li>Require enhanced criminal records checks for volunteers (including those who are supervised) and prevent new employees from commencing employment before receiving their check.<\/li>\n<li>Amend the requirements for what providers must tell staff they have to disclose, as part of information that may affect their\u00a0suitability\u00a0to work with children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The group and school-based version also requires providers of childcare on domestic premises to notify Ofsted or their CMA of\u00a0changes to persons aged 16 or over living or working at the premises. This aligns with existing requirements for childminders.<\/p>\n<p>Other minor clarificatory changes have been made to both frameworks.
