We are delighted to congratulate Puffins at Westcliff in Dawlish<\/a> on their recent Ofsted inspection \u2013 where the setting was recognised as delivering a \u2018strong standard\u2019 across all areas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The inspection praised the nursery\u2019s \u201ccalm, nurturing learning space\u201d and highlighted how staff provide \u201clearning experiences that engage, motivate, and promote positive attitudes towards learning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Inspectors also recognised the strong sense of community, noting that \u201call children show a real sense of belonging at this highly inclusive setting.\u201d \u2013 see Puffins at Westcliff – Open – Find an Inspection Report – Ofsted<\/a><\/p>\n

This positive outcome also reflects the impact of the Council\u2019s proactive approach to securing and supporting high\u2011quality early years provision for families across Devon.<\/p>\n

Following the closure of a pre\u2011school previously operating on the Westcliff site, Devon County Council\u2019s Early Years and Childcare Service took swift action to safeguard early years places in the area. In line with the Council\u2019s statutory childcare sufficiency duties \u2014 ensuring that families can access sustainable, high\u2011quality early years provision \u2014 a formal tender process was launched to identify a provider capable of revitalising the setting and meeting local need.<\/p>\n

Puffins of Exeter were successful in that competitive process and took over the Westcliff building in March 2025. Over the past year, they have worked in partnership with the Council to re\u2011establish early years provision in Dawlish and to create a nurturing, high\u2011quality environment for children and families.<\/p>\n

We extend our warmest congratulations to the Puffins team for their dedication, hard work and commitment to delivering excellent early education, as recognised in their recent Ofsted inspection.<\/p>\n
