{"id":20006,"date":"2026-06-18T09:59:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T08:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/eycs\/?p=20006"},"modified":"2026-06-18T09:59:44","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T08:59:44","slug":"nspcc-resources-hearing-the-voice-of-babies-and-infants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/eycs\/nspcc-resources-hearing-the-voice-of-babies-and-infants\/","title":{"rendered":"NSPCC resources \u2013 hearing the voice of babies and infants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the updated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/working-together-to-safeguard-children--2\" rel=\"noopener\">Working Together 2026<\/a> guidance placing a stronger emphasis on the voice of babies, infants, and non\u2011verbal children and reinforcing the expectation that practitioners maintain a consistently child\u2011centred approach, we thought it would be helpful to share a set of expert insight videos from the NSPCC.<\/p>\n<p>The NSPCC resource <a href=\"https:\/\/learning.nspcc.org.uk\/research-resources\/expert-insights\/voice-infant?utm_campaign=20260610_KIS_Case-reviews_June&amp;utm_content=Watch%20our%20videos&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Adestra\" rel=\"noopener\">The voice of the infant: expert insight videos | NSPCC Learning<\/a> provides a concise and accessible overview of what we mean by the \u201cvoice of the child.\u201d It reinforces that this is not limited to spoken words, but is about keeping the child at the centre of our practice, understanding their lived experience, and recognising all forms of communication.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, the videos highlight that for babies and very young children, their voice is expressed through non\u2011verbal communication, including behaviour, cues, and careful observation, not just speech.
