As of 4 September 2024, the process for reporting a Critical Incident impacting a school or educational setting in Devon has changed.<\/p>\n

If a school or educational setting has experienced a Critical Incident, it is important that the Local Authority are notified immediately so that any relevant support can be coordinated and put in place as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

When reporting a Critical Incident impacting a school or educational setting, please download and complete the\u00a0Critical Incident Form<\/a>\u00a0and send it to Children\u2019s Social Care \u2018Front Door\u2019<\/strong> (MASH) mailbox: multiagencysafeguardinghubsecure-mailbox@devon.gov.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What is a Critical Incident?<\/h2>\n

A Critical Incident can be a single incident or a sequence of incidents which:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • are sudden and unexpected<\/li>\n
  • contain real or imagined threats to a person<\/li>\n
  • overwhelm usual coping mechanisms<\/li>\n
  • cause severe disruption<\/li>\n
  • are traumatic to anyone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Critical Incidents affecting educational settings may include:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • death of a pupil or a member of staff<\/li>\n
    • serious accident involving pupils or school personnel, on or off school premises<\/li>\n
    • violent attack or intrusion into premises e.g. armed intruder or bomb alert<\/li>\n
    • fire, flood, building collapse, or major vandalism<\/li>\n
    • a hostage situation<\/li>\n
