NHS England have set out plans to reduce avoidable harm to children and young people with asthma in the publication of the National bundle of Care for CYP with Asthma<\/a> which takes a whole system approach to managing asthma.<\/p>\n

One element of the bundle was to develop CYP National Asthma Capability Framework<\/a>, which sets out standards of training that are required of any professional who may look after a child or young person with asthma. The framework is aimed at both health and non-healthcare professionals across all aspects of a child’s life, including childcare and education providers, sports coaches, activity club leaders, social services and health care workers.<\/p>\n

Asthma is the most common long-term medical condition in children in the UK, with around 1 in 11 children and young people living with asthma. The UK has one of the highest prevalence, emergency admissions and death rates for childhood asthma in Europe, and findings show that 46% of deaths could have been prevented. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure good asthma care for children and young people with asthma. The training capabilities framework with tiers 1-5 aims to train all professionals who look after children with asthma.<\/p>\n
