Devon has been awarded over \u00a33.5 million to support schools, childminders, and providers in creating or expanding wraparound childcare.<\/p>\n<h3>Why is it important?<\/h3>\n<p>The Government\u2019s aim is to make wraparound childcare available in\u202fevery primary school\u202facross England. This helps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working parents\u202fmanage their schedules more easily<\/li>\n<li>Children\u202fbenefit from a safe, consistent environment before and after lessons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is wraparound childcare?<\/h3>\n<p>Wraparound childcare\u202fis the term used to describe childcare that takes place\u202foutside of normal school hours\u202f\u2014 typically before and after the school day. Around\u202f60% of primary schools in England\u202falready offer wraparound childcare before and after school.<\/p>\n<h4>What does it include?<\/h4>\n<p>Wraparound childcare extends the school day to cover the hours from\u202f8:00am to 6:00pm\u202fduring\u202fterm time. (see notes below re partial hours offer).<\/p>\n<p>It includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Before-school care\u202f(e.g. breakfast clubs)<\/li>\n<li>After-school care\u202f(e.g. extended day provision)<br \/>\n<strong>Please note &#8211; <\/strong>while wraparound can also refer to care during school holidays, the current national wraparound childcare programme\u202fdoes not include holiday provision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How is it different from school activity clubs?<\/h4>\n<p>Wraparound childcare is\u202fnot the same\u202fas after-school clubs or enrichment activities. Here\u2019s how it differs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u202fregular childcare service, not a one-off or weekly club<\/li>\n<li>It must run\u202fevery school day, regardless of staff illness or bad weather<\/li>\n<li>If the school is open, the wraparound childcare must also be open<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>NEW partial hours criteria (introduced July 2025)<\/h3>\n<p>The full core offer is, childcare from 8am until 6pm, Monday to Friday, for children from reception to year 6.\u00a0In July 2025 DfE announced introduction of funded Partial hours, aimed at the small rural schools or schools in deprived areas who have less of a need for full wraparound provision. Funding is paid per hour of operation so you can claim for the number of hours per week you are offering childcare.<\/p>\n<h4>To qualify:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Breakfast clubs must run <strong>at<\/strong> <strong>least 30 minutes<\/strong> before the school day starts<\/li>\n<li>After-school clubs must run <strong>at least 90 minutes<\/strong> after the school day ends<\/li>\n<li>Provision must run <strong>at least 3 days a week<\/strong>, both before and after school<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minimum<\/strong> requirement is 6\u00a0 hours per week (30 mins Breakfast club and 1.5 hours for after school = 2 hours a day X\u00a0 3 days a week)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maximum<\/strong> requirement is 17.5 hours per week ( 1 hour for breakfast and 2.5 hours\u00a0 for after school 3.5 hours per day x 5 days)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Note &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0we can also fund you to increase hours e.g extend from 5pm close to 6 pm close<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information contact:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:educate.earlyyearswraparound-mailbox@devon.gov.uk\">educate.earlyyearswraparound-mailbox@devon.gov.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac2\" id=\"head2\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac2\">How much funding could I receive? <\/a><div id=\"mac2\" aria-labelledby=\"head2\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<h2>Funding<\/h2>\n<p>Funding is paid on a reducing scale for up to five terms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Term one is 100% funded<\/li>\n<li>Term two 80%<\/li>\n<li>Term three 60%<\/li>\n<li>Term four 40%<\/li>\n<li>Term five at 20%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>There are three models of funding<\/h3>\n<p>Funding examples shown below\u202f<strong>as a guide only<\/strong>, funding will vary according to your start dates.<br \/>\nThe examples below assume an expansion of\u202f<strong>five hours per week<\/strong>\u202f(one hour per day). If you extend by ten hours per week multiply the amounts below by two:<br \/>\nThese calculations are for<strong> FIVE<\/strong> terms of funding in total.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Small schools<\/strong> = less than 60 Pupils = \u00a37,200 annual funding<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medium to large schools<\/strong> with over 60 pupils = \u00a311,780 annual funding<\/li>\n<li><strong>Private Voluntary or Independent<\/strong> settings =\u00a310,600 annual funding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Start-up grants<\/h3>\n<p>These cover your set up costs and can be used for resources for the club the maximum start-up grant is \u00a31,350 for a brand new setting.<\/p>\n<h3>Expansion of places<\/h3>\n<p>For settings who already provide full wraparound care 8am until 6pm, to extend the number of spaces\u00a0 e.g. from 20 to 40 spaces. Funding is \u00a3200 per new space created (Breakfast and after school). We have made an allowance for small one-off grants of around \u00a32,000 to support the promotion and development of the childcare, or support additional staffing to enable the settings to be more inclusive. The application must outline how this is a short-term issue, and explain clearly the difference the additional funding will make to them.<\/p>\n<p>There is an application form online to apply for wraparound support funding. It is aimed at those who would rather be doing anything else than thinking about finances but will contain hints and tips for anyone working in a childcare setting. By attending this session, providers will understand what is important when running their setting and how they can support parents with making fees more affordable. This workshop, which ran on 20th May covered healthy and fun food activities for children.
