Update from Public Health Devon

In Devon, we are currently seeing an increase in pre-school children with colds, chest infections and other respiratory diseases. At the same time, coronavirus cases in the county are also rising rapidly.

The message to parents/carers should be that if your child is unwell, please keep them at home and don’t send them to nursery, pre-school or childminder as they may make others ill. Parents might find it useful to download the free HANDI app which gives advice on common childhood conditions.

If a child is showing any of the main coronavirus symptoms:

  • a high temperature,
  • a new, continuous cough,
  • a loss or change of sense of smell/taste

then they should book them an NHS PCR test online or by calling 119 as soon as possible.
