Safeguarding and child protection training
Safeguarding Children Awareness (Group 2)
This course aims to raise awareness of the need for child protection and to have a knowledge and understanding of relevant procedures. These workshops are suitable for all those working in the early years and childcare (level 2).
It can be undertaken either as eLearning, a virtual session or a face-to-face session. Needs to be refreshed every 3 years.eLearning course:

Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection (Group 3 Core)
This course is suitable for staff and volunteers who work with children, young people, families and parents or carers where they are in a position to identify signs of child abuse or neglect and who may then be asked to contribute to assessing, planning or intervening and reviewing the needs of the child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns. This course is also suitable for Designated Safeguarding Officers and Deputies.

Early Years Child Protection Refresher (Group 3) training
This refresher course is for delegates who have already undertaken the DCFP Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection (Group 3 Core) training and need to update their knowledge. This refresher training is for people with child protection responsibilities e.g. Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy.
The training will be delivered via x2 eLearning modules, a digital quiz and a 3.5 hour taught virtual session via Microsoft Teams or face to face session.

Confidence in Attending Child Protection Conferences Workshop
This 3-hour session is for practitioners working with children, young people and families who may have to attend a Child Protection Conference as part of their role and want to feel more confident about contributing and contributing to the child protection processes. You will learn about the structure and processes associated with a Child Protection Conference and the methods and responsibilities of those involved.
Ideally, delegates should have already completed the Group 3 Core Multi-Agency Safeguarding & Child Protection course.

Recognising & Responding to Neglect Group 3 (Refresher)
This training was previously known as a ‘refresher’ so all delegates attending this training should have already completed the Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection Group 3 Core.
Course objectives:
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of neglect
- Recognise the impact of both short and long term neglect on children
- Work with families in a way which effectively supports them to address neglect
- Undertake difficult conversations with families about neglect
- Identify the key features of effective assessments of neglect
- Implement appropriate interventions to reduce the risk and prevent cases from drifting
- Recognise the changing features of neglect with the age of the child
This training is now in 2 parts on 2 separate days of the same month. Please attend both dates to qualify for your certificate.

Levels of Need Workshop
Multi-agency tool to help everyone who works with children, young people and families across the partnership.
Early help is the most effective, evidence-based way to prevent harm to children; working with families at an early stage helps to prevent problems form escalating. Never has it been more important to get it right in Devon to help families recover from the impact of the pandemic and to build resilience for other challenges that lay ahead.

Safeguarding Forum (virtual)
A remote session via Microsoft Teams where early years safeguarding leads can get together and discuss safeguarding issues, changes in legislation, seek advice, hear from other agencies and network with colleagues. These forums offer practical advice and support with the aim of providing you with more confidence to carry out your role as a Designated /Deputy Safeguarding Lead.

Paediatric first aid / health related training
Paediatric first aid training
This 12 hour course is consistent with the criteria set out in Annex A of the EYFS 2021.
This course comprises of:
- 6 hours independent study (eLearning)
- 6 hours skills assessment (in person; small groups of 10 maximum)

EFR Mental Health First Aid Awareness Training
This training will help you to spot the early signs of mental ill health and play your part in providing early support to someone who may be at risk of developing serious mental health issues. It provides participants with the ability to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek professional help.

Oral Health Improvement training (virtual)
A fully funded 2.5 hour virtual session for early years and childcare practitioners and out of school practitioners about the importance of oral health. Training is aimed at those working with children aged 0-11 years.
Topics covered:
- The consequences of poor oral health
- Diet and its impact on the dentition
- Causes, symptoms and how to prevent tooth decay
- Techniques and support for helping people maintain good oral hygiene

VIG information session
Video Interactive Guidance (VIG) information session
Following a successful bid for funding, Devon County Council in partnership with Action for Children and the University of Exeter are offering an exciting opportunity for early years providers to extend their practice by training to become a Video Interactive Guidance (VIG) practitioner.
VIG works by actively engaging practitioners working with children to develop better relationships with those children who they identify as needing additional support with their behavioural and developmental needs. In a school or nursery setting this could be an early year’s practitioner working with a child who may have language difficulties for example or showing signs of being autistic.
The information session will cover the following:

Portage workshop
Portage Workshop – A Small Steps Approach to Learning for Children with SEND
This is a certificated training course delivered by National Portage Association Accredited Trainers.
Portage is a home education service for pre-school children with special educational needs. This workshop will look at ways in which to support both a child with special educational needs and their family.
The training is suitable for: Early Years Complex Needs Practitioners, Early Years Practitioners, SENCOs, Parents/Carers, Children Centre staff, Foundation Stage practitioners.
The workshop will be delivered over 2.5 days, face to face at a venue.

Moving and handling
Moving and Handling of Children with Physical Difficulties: Initial (theory and practical – in person) (early years)
In-person theory and practical moving and handling initial training (for those people who have not trained in moving and handling previously). Refresher recommended annually.
Suitable for any staff working with a child or young person who has Physical/Movement difficulties (not suitable for those working with children who have emotional or behavioural difficulties requiring physical interventions).
