Safeguarding conference – a week of free cpd and learning (Monday 22nd – Friday 26th March 2021)

Following on from the success of SaFest last year, our Plymouth Partners have organised an exciting week long series of online ‘live’ events on Microsoft Teams to focus minds, inform and further develop a community of professional practice on the theme of preventing offending & harmful sexual behaviour, a critical part of the movement in Plymouth to prevent child sexual abuse.

Aims:

  • To increase workforce understanding about offending behaviours and what works to prevent sexual offending and harmful sexual behaviour.
  • To improve understanding on why all professionals have a responsibility and an opportunity to take positive action to prevent offending.

The week-long event starting on March 22nd has already attracted speakers and critical thinkers from as far afield as Australia to discuss their work in the developing field of understanding around harmful sexual behaviour and prevention of offending.

The week will provide a trauma informed and development insight into early intervention work and thinking in relation to approaches working in treatment and prevention of harmful sexual behaviour.

The sessions are all centred around the potential for all agencies working in communities to be able to play their part in preventing sexual harm. Participants will learn about existing approaches to building peoples sense of social connection and purpose, help seeking for mental health and diversion from developing harmful thoughts and behaviours.

The week will deliver information about sexual abuse prevalence and insights into what agencies nationally, internationally & locally are doing to increase recognition of concerning behaviour, increase curiosity and public acceptance of sexual abuse prevalence and provide participants with learning on what they can do to be part of the solution to preventing child sexual abuse.
