Running in Rwanda

Having worked with and for Devon’s Early Years and Childcare Service for most of her career, Nikki Phillips thought it was time for her to look at supporting children a bit further afield.

In June, Nikki will be going to Rwanda with a charity called Compassion to visit their projects and to take part in a Muskathlon. This is an ultimate endurance event – like a marathon – set in a remote area. Nikki will be running with a team of volunteers from across the country that are coming together to either run full, half or ultra marathons, cycle 120 miles or walk a marathon all in Rwanda in the heat and at altitude. Nikki is planning to tackle the half marathon distance.

Nikki says:

The aim of this trip is to raise funds for children and families in Rwanda as well as get sponsors for children in Rwanda. The team, in taking part in the Rwanda 2019 challenge, will be raising funds to build 34 homes for families in Rwanda. Each house costs just £3,240 to build. Each home will consist of living room, three bedrooms and an adjoining building that will house the kitchen and toilet.

As part of my fundraising, I have organised an exciting evening with Marvin Muoneke, a former Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist and The Voice UK contestant. Marvin has an amazing voice and will be doing a tribute to Nat ‘king’ Cole. The event is being held at Cullompton Community Centre on Friday 29 March 2019 with a bar. Tickets just £10 each, so please contact me  if you would like some.
