Reducing Parental Conflict – free half day online workshops
Understanding Parental Couple Conflict, It’s Impact On Children’s Outcomes And What We Can Do To Help

There is clear research to show that inter-parental conflict, whether parents are together or separated, puts children at risk of poor social, emotional and educational outcomes, both by impairing parenting and also through the child’s direct exposure to conflict. Children who are exposed to frequent, intense and poorly resolved conflict (across the spectrum of parental conflict – from silence to violence) are more likely to experience a decline in their mental health and suffer poorer long-term outcomes.
Evidence shows that children tend to have better health, emotional wellbeing and higher academic attainment if they grow up with parents (whether together or separated) who have a good relationship and are able to manage conflict well.
The workshops are open to all practitioners across the wider partnership workforce (Community / Voluntary sector, Local Authority services, Health, Police, Private /business sectors, adult social care).
Outline programme and specific learning outcomes:
- Brief overview of parental couple conflict research, established and new
- Understanding of the nature and impact on the child of parental conflict, parental gatekeeping, the child who is trying to manage relationships with separated parents
- Using measures and tools to start conversations and to get a sense of knowing what works for whom
The workshop will be virtual and repeated over the following dates:
- Tuesday 12th October 2021
- Tuesday 19th October 2021
- Tuesday 2nd November 2021
- Tuesday 9th November 2021
Starting at around 9.30am, the session should close at 1.15pm. Full details and confirmation of times will be forwarded nearer the date(s) including all log-in instructions.
