Queens Garden Party

On Tuesday 15th May, Claire and Beth (and Tiny!) attended the Queen’s Garden Party. They were nominated to attend by the Children’s Centre for their work in running the breastfeeding peer support group in Axminster:

‘Historically the centre ran a Breastfeeding Cade in Axminster – hiring a venue and staffing the group with the support of peer supporters. Due to budget restrictions and upcoming changes in targets, it was not possible to continue with this group. Bet and Claire instantly took it upon themselves to find a venue and secure external funding to start their new group – Axminster Baby Café. The external funding then paid for two further peer supports to complete the peer support training and therefore join the team. We refer mums  to the group and we also advertise it on our centre timetable. However, this is their group and the success of the group is due entirely to their energy and hard work. It is now a thriving group; supporting new mums in the community with the invaluable mother-to-mother support. I would welcome a way of saying thank you to them both for their ‘can do’ attitude. When groups are no longer able to run, it is so easy to slip into the negative reaction of anger and frustration, but Beth and Claire instead saw it as an opportunity to create something new! And what they have done really needs to be celebrated!’

Claire is a registered childminder and she smuggled in Tiny, the pre-school bear from Dragonflies, Axminster! Claire said ‘It was a beautiful day and the cakes were lovely!’
