Paediatric First Aid training

We are pleased to announce we are now in a position to begin to offer the Paediatric First Aid training once again.

Whilst we understand that the Department for Education and Ofsted have agreed to extend the renewal date to the end of November 2020, we also appreciate that many providers will be keen to encourage staff to update their training as soon as possible.

We currently have the two options below available:

Option 1:

  • 6 hours independent study (elearning, books)
  • 6 hours skills assessment (in person; small groups of 4 maximum).

This option is similar to the current blended course but we will restrict numbers to no more than 4 in order to comply with the social distancing guidance. This will depend on the size of the room and if necessary we will reduce the number of participants to comply with the 2 metre rule. The room will also need to be well ventilated.

£65 per person.

Option 2:

  • 6 hours independent study (elearning, books)
  • 4 hours skills assessment (via Microsoft Teams)
  • 2 hours skills assessment (in person – individually or small groups of 4 maximum)

This option has been created to reduce the amount of contact time between trainer and participants. Each participant will be required to complete the eLearning module as per the current blended course. We will then arrange a time when all the participants are available to create a Microsoft Teams virtual training day with the trainers to run through the following skills as these can be completed individually and require no contact with another person:

    • Skill 1 – Scene assessment and barrier use
    • Skill 2 – primary assessment and recovery position
    • Skill 5 – serious bleeding
    • Skill 6 – shock management
    • Skill 7 – spinal injury
    • Skill 11 – bandaging

The face to face session will require a room which is large enough to host the participants and trainers whilst maintaining the 2 metre social distancing guidance, either individually or as a small group as per option 1. This session will cover the following skills:

  • Skill 3 and 4 – child CPR and infant CPR plus the use of an AED
  • Skill 8 and 9 – conscious choking child and infant
  • Skill 10 and 12 – illness and injury assessment

In accordance with the HSE guidelines, these skills are required to be seen in person by the trainer.

Each provider / participant will need to read the course instructions and the risk assessment (available at the top of the course page once you have enrolled). The risk assessment has received approval from Devon County Council’s Health and Safety Team and is a prerequisite for study prior to the course.

In order to complete the training you must have a working webcam / camera on your IT device. You will need to have sufficient floor space, which can clearly be seen from the webcam / camera, in order to demonstrate the ‘floor’ skills.

£65 per person.

Prior to booking on either of the above options please contact Helen Stephenson at to arrange times / dates / venues.
