Important news about changes to the daily Attendance Register returns

A change to the daily Attendance Register returns – This applies to all providers and schools with early years children

The DfE have just informed us that we only need to gather and return the numbers of vulnerable children attending early years provision in Devon; they no longer require us to report on each individual critical worker child. However, we still need to report on the total number of children attending your setting. So, all children attending your setting need to be included in the overall ‘total number of children attending today’ box but, apart from vulnerable children, we don’t require each child to be entered individually against your setting.

This means that there is no longer a need to mark your critical worker children as ‘Attending’ your setting on your daily return.

The following vulnerable children must be added to your returns:

Children in Need
Children in Care
Children with a Child Protection Plan
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan
Children with a Social Worker
Children on Right for Children the Early Help system

A big thank you to all who have been completing the daily attendance register. This information is vital so that we know locally what provision is available for families and the DFE can see what is happening across the early years sector nationally as this is key to the country’s economic recovery.
