Early years experts and mentors programme

As you will be aware the Department for Education (DfE) are investing in support for early years settings to address the impact of COVID on children’s learning.

They have recently recruited early years teachers and practitioners to deliver the Experts and Mentors programme. The programme is delivered virtually with onsite support being arranged through the DfE. This programme is in addition to the support you receive from your Early Years and Childcare Adviser (EYCA) and Early Years Consultant (EYC).

The criteria for settings to apply are as follows:

Eligible settings include BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO those who have:

  • been judged as Requires Improvement (RI) or inadequate in the last 3 years
  • high numbers of children in receipt of EY Pupil Premium
  • high numbers of children with SEND needs
  • high numbers of children taking up the disadvantaged 2-year-old offer

There is some flexibility to receive support if your setting does not fit this criteria. If you would like more information on this, please contact Anne Hudson: anne.hudson@babcockinternational.com or Sue Bolt: sue.bolt@devon.gov.uk.
We are able to recommend settings that fall outside of these criteria to the DFE.

Further information about this programme can be found on the DfE website.

Settings can request to participate in this programme by completing the self-referral form.

Please continue to contact your EYCA or your EYC for the normal support provided through these teams including funding queries, safeguarding and welfare requirements, SENDCo and curriculum support.
