Christmas message to early years and childcare providers

As 2020 draws to a close after what has been one of the most challenging times we have experienced, I just wanted to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of you for the hard work, dedication and professionalism you have all shown over the past 10 months.

It is an absolute testament to you all that the numbers of children accessing their entitlement remains very high and it just shows how families have complete trust that you will care for their children and provide all of the wonderful learning opportunities they missed during the first few months of the pandemic.

I do understand the additional pressures you have been under that the pandemic has created, including having to complete the daily attendance register. I hope you know that by doing so it has really supported children’s services by ensuring that vulnerable children didn’t slip through the net. You will be pleased to know that the Department for Education (DfE) are moving their attendance collection to every other week from January therefore we will step down the daily register and send you a new link via a smart survey ready for the DfE collection request in the New Year. We are obviously still asking you to continue to check children’s attendance and discuss with families where prolonged unexplained absences occur.

Finally, on behalf of all the staff in the Early Years and Childcare Service I would like to extend my thanks again and sincere appreciation for all the support you have given to Devon’s young children and their families

It just remains for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
