We will work with the principles of continuous improvement to influence innovation, learning and organisational development.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In February 2023, our Cabinet approved the setting up on an <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Equality Commission<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to drive improvement through an equality action plan, providing political direction and greater accountability.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scope<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Commission\u2019s scope intends to be as wide-reaching as possible to ensure its contribution and impact is as significant as it can be. The Commission&#8217;s work will form the cornerstone of equality, diversity and inclusion standards and best practice, in line with the Equality Act 2010 and other relevant legislation, to which the Council&#8217;s services, policies, procedures and work will strive to adhere to.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Commission will promote the advancement of equality and challenge discrimination in all its forms. To achieve this, it aims to break down barriers prohibiting an inclusive society, tackle unfairness caused by inequality and encourage community cohesion through increased understanding and awareness.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559740&quot;:280}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Role<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uphold the values of the organisation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: initial;font-size: revert\">Provide leadership<\/span> on EDI matters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>H<span style=\"color: initial;font-size: revert\">ighlight and investigate issues and make recommendations.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide public accountability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Values<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Commission\u2019s values are to:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559740&quot;:280}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Be open and honest<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559740&quot;:280}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Act with integrity<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559740&quot;:280}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Be inclusive<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Listen<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559740&quot;:280}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Be brave, bold and confident.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559740&quot;:280}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Membership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission is made up of six cross-party Devon elected members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its members are: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=11593\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin<\/a> Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs and Broadband, also with Cabinet responsibilities for communities, public health and EDI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=11573\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillr Simon Clist<\/a> Cabinet Member for Assets and Resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=11575\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillor Louise Wainwright<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=11612\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillor Neale Raleigh<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=11591\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillor Sarah Wilson<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=11572\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillor Stuart Rogers BEM<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TBC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Commission may establish task groups, enquiry days, and undertake other models of engagement or research as deemed necessary.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559740&quot;:280}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Commission will be supported by the Director\/Deputy Director for Legal and Democratic Services and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Team.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Connection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Service EDI leads, staff network and community representatives (&#8216;EDI stakeholders&#8217;) influence and feedback on equality priorities and actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission and EDI team will engage with EDI stakeholders to <span data-contrast=\"auto\">co-produce and monitor an Equality Action Plan.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Service EDI leads will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Respond to priorities by negotiating and supporting the development and delivery of an Equality Action Plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide tactical leadership, working with departments (including HR) who will design or implement policy, activities, cultural or service change to meet targets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Track and report on progress to the Board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our staff networks provide a space for staff with a common interest to connect and support eachother, and influence workforce policy and practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a style=\"font-size: revert\" href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/equality\/our-commitment\/equality-reference-group\/\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Equality Reference Group<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: revert;color: initial\"> (ERG) is a body of representatives from the voluntary and community sector covering the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and Trade Union EDI representative.
